Coral Coast

Cyclone Narelle has caused flooding and damage to some of Western Australia's iconic National Parks. Closures are currently in place for Cape Range National Park, Nyinggulara National Park (old Ningaloo Station) and Nyinggulu Coastal Reserves (Warroora Coast) which is reported by Department of Biodiversity Conservation and Attractions (DBCA) to not be opening until Monday 27th April 2026 (possibly longer for Nyinggulara National Park [old Ningaloo Station]). 

Kennedy Range National Park (Mundatharrda) is also closed. 

Pilbara and Kimberley Region (Australia's North West)

Karijini National Park is open and welcoming visitors. 

Millstream Chichester National Park was affected by cyclone Narelle and the following trails and roads are closed - Jirndawurrunha Jinbi Trail, Snappy Gum Drive, Warrunganha Trail. It appears that the park itself and camping sites are open. 

National Parks along the Gibb River Road are closed but are on track to reopen after the wet season on 1st May 2026. 

Northern Territory 

Please check the NT Parks website for up to date information. Please note that the link for Kakadu is separate and provided blow. 

Keep River National Park 

Currently closed following the wet season and expected to reopen on 1st May 2026. 

Judbarra / Gregory National Park 

Partially open, but many walks and campgrounds are closed. Please check here for more information. 

Litchfield National Park 

Some swimming holes may still be closed as the dry season begins. Check NT Parks for current status of individual swimming areas before visiting.

Nitmiluk National Park 

Katherine Gorge and the wider Nitmiluk National Park are open. Gorge cruise bookings recommended. Swimming is possible in designated areas only. Please always heed crocodile warning signs.

Kakadu National Park 

Kakadu is transitioning from the wet season. Key closures currently in place:

• Ubirr: Closed — road closure at Magela Creek

• Cahills Crossing: Closed and impassable

• Yurmikmik (Motor Car Falls): Currently closed.

Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park 

Open year-round. The Rock Walk (climbing) remains permanently closed out of respect for Anangu Traditional Owners. Cultural tours, sunrise/sunset viewing, and the Valley of the Winds walk are all accessible.

 

West MacDonnell National Park (Tjoritja)

Generally open with gorges, waterholes and most trails accessible. Wet season rainfall may affect creek crossings and some sites.  Detailed information can be found here.
