Exploring Ningaloo’s Magnificent Trio – Whale sharks, Manta rays, and Humpback Whales
Get ready to immerse yourself in the magical underwater world of the Ningaloo Reef, where the ocean’s gentle giants – whale sharks, manta rays, and humpback whales – steal the show.
We invite you to embark on a road trip of a lifetime and witness these friendly giants up and close. A magical experience to tick off your bucket list.
The humpback adventure – it’s not too late to book this year’s trip!
Each year, more than 30,000 humpback whales travel past the Ningaloo Reef as they escape the cold Antarctica temperatures and journey to warmer waters. Now, we have the chance to immerse ourselves in their world and swim alongside them, experiencing a portion of their journey.
Humpback Whales are amazing creatures that showcase the beauty of nature through their playful breaches and haunting melodies. The official humpback whale swimming season is from 1st August to 30th November each year. However, tours typically run until mid-November. It’s not too late to book your Coral Coast road trip.
Mantarays – ocean’s ballet dancers
If you are interested in adding a swim with manta rays to your road trip itinerary, rest assured that you can see them all year round on the Ningaloo Reef at Coral Bay. Glide along these elegant creatures as they showcase their underwater choreography by moving elegantly and effortlessly through the water. Manta rays are safe to swim, snorkel or dive with because they do not have a sharp barbs like stingrays. There are both full-day and half-day tours available every day.

Whalesharks – the friendly giants
Diving in the water with whale sharks is a truly humbling experience that will leave you in awe. The Ningaloo Reef is one of the only places in the world where whale sharks reliably congregate each year. Despite their name, whale sharks are not whales. They are actually fish, the biggest fish in the sea.
Ningaloo Reef’s Whale Shark season starts in March and runs through to August where they are spotted on an almost daily basis. The 2023 whale shark season has ended, but you can start planning your coral coast adventure for 2024 now to tick this experience off your bucket list.
