Based on our South West Edge itinerary we have compiled a top 10 of beautiful campsites along the edge. To highlight this beautiful part of Australia, RedSands Campers has created a unique road-trip itinerary.
1. Honeymoon pool - Wellington national park
Situated on the banks of the Collie River, Honeymoon Pool is like stepping in to a magical forest. Surrounded by flowing creeks and weeping peppermint trees, it's a perfect spot to set up camp for the night. 2WD accessible.
2. Beachlands Holiday Park - Busselton
The family-friendly Beachlands Holiday Park is highly regarded and is just 100 meters from the beach. 2WD accessible.
3. Contos Field Campground - Margaret River region
Wake up to the sound of the surf on the beach and hike directly to the beach from the campsite. 2WD accessible.
4. Boranup Campground
Boranup Campgroup is a beautiful small camping area in the heart of the Boranup karri forest. 2WD accessible.
5. Shannon National Park - Camp ground
Located in the magnificent karri forest of Shannon National Park. Here you can enjoy a warm shower (as long as you ‘stoke the donkey’! ~ A ‘donkey’ is an old fashioned hot water system). 2WD accessible.
6. Parry Beach campground
Located on the far western end of Williams Bay is this volunteer managed campground. First in best dressed! 2WD accessible.
Up for an adventure? Drive across the beach, to the other end of the bay, add a 15 min walk and it will take you straight to Greens Pool and Elephant Rocks (4WD only!).
7. Munglinup Beach
Munglinup Beach is a hidden gem, about an hour’s drive from Esperance. This little beach is protected by reef, so is perfect for snorkelling, swimming and fishing. 2WD accessible.
8.Lucky Bay campground - Esperance
A beautiful and popular campground near Esperance. On the snow-white beach of Lucky Bay even the kangaroos like to sunbathe! 2WD accessible.
If you're going for a drive on the beach (4WD only!), make sure to lower your tyre pressures, as the sand is very soft!
9. Thomas River Campground
A RedSands favourite! Stunning white beaches, great fishing, hiking and 4WDing. A slice of paradise! Mostly 2WD accessible, but it's crucial to check the road conditions.
10. Lake Ballard, Menzies
As you begin your homeward loop via the Goldfields, a great place to set up camp for the night is Lake Ballard, the world’s largest outdoor art gallery. Set up your fire and enjoy a true outback camping experience – we guarantee you’ll never have seen so many stars before. 2WD accessible.
